Troop 2 at the Boston Blazers - Event Report

On January 30, 2010 we had 21 of our Troop 2 scouts participate as part of the opening ceremony at the Boston Blazers game held at the Banknorth Garden.  The Drum Corps performed briefly before the game and then again during a game timeout.  The crowd of nearly 7000 gave the boys a great round of applause after their performances.  The boys did fantastic and then were able to enjoy the Blazers victory over Philadelphia Wings.

A Salute to GW Toma - Friends of Troop 2

A piece of critical equipment for us, at summer camp, is a large freezer chest. We keep this freezer on the mainland, as there is obviously no electricity on Cliff Island. This freezer allows us to buy and store meats, butter, ice cream and ice for use on the island throughout the week. Last year we were preparing for camp when we discovered our freezer was no longer interested in pulling it's fair share. Luckily for us, the Schneiders had a freezer which they generously loaned us for the week.

When we returned from camp we sent out a call for help to a few local businesses. George Washington Toma told us that they would try to help us out. True to their word, they have come through for us in a big way. Last week, we took delivery of a brand new (slightly dented) freezer from George Washington Toma. The freezer is large capacity and should meet all our needs. We want to thank Toma for their generous donation and we ask you to consider supporting GW Toma the next time you are purchasing appliances or electronics.

Troop 2 at the Boston Blazers - Drummers Info

We have confirmed the details with the Blazers.  They need our Drum Corps at the Banknorth Garden by 11:30am on January 30th.  This will give them time to do a sound check before the players start their warm up.

All tickets have been distributed.  Let me know if your tickets did not make it home - email me.

If you are joining the caravan from Weymouth, please be at the clubhouse by 10:00 AM.  If you are meeting us at the Garden, scouts need to be there by 11:15 AM.  All scouts will enter the TD Banknorth Garden through the main security entrance on the East side (right hand side as you face the front) of the building.  All parents must enter through the main entrances.

Scouts should bring the following:
  • Their Ticket
  • Their waiver for the Blazers
  • Complete Uniform (no sash).  Please wear dark shoes if possible.
  • Drum Corps T shirt (under uniform) if they wish to take their uniform off during game.
  • A snack for the ride in - we are not providing food.

2010 Ski Trip - Day 3 report

After some late night nachos courtesy of Mr Zig, the kids settled down for some well deserved sleep.  Every kid had at least made an attempt at night skiing (unless they where injured).  The highlights included night runs under the snow making guns.

Mr B Chase roused everyone out of their sleeping bags this morning at about 7am.  Everyone enjoyed another filling breakfast and then started the cleanup.  We packed the trucks and luggage away in a crisp 4 degree chill.  By 10am, everyone was either on the mountain skiing or headed home.  By noon the temp was up to 23, but everyone was heading home.

Thanks to everyone that made this weekend possible.  The feedback from the kids was very positive and we look forward to doing it again next year.

Thanks to the those that organized and ran the event:

2010 Ski Trip - Day 2 report

5:30 AM - The kitchen crew starts their morning preparing our breakfast of eggs, hash-browns, cornbeef hash and bacon.

6:00 AM - Mr. D Chase sets off the fire alarms throughout the lodg by burning the bacon

6:15 AM - Bridgdon's Finest pay us a visit to make sure it's just the rookie chefs and nothing more serious.

8:45 AM - The boys hit the mountain. Very cold morning but everyone is eager to get one the slopes. For the 1st year boys, Mr. Kelley gives them a warm-up class before the mountain's instructors show up.

12:00 - A filling lunch of chicken sandwiches and soup help warm everyone up after the morning skiing. The boys eat heartily and then everyone heads back to the slopes.  Billy goes dressed as a banana and Tyler W goes as a Gorilla.

1:00 PM - Dan L falls and hurts his arm. The ski patrol brings him down the mountain in a ski litter. Mr Clancy and Mr B Chase take care of bringing Dan to the local hospital for x-ray. The diagnosis - a fractured arm

3:30 PM - The cold has gotten to most of the boys and they make their way back to the lodge (thanks Mr. Bruynell)

5:00 PM - Dinner is almost ready. Mr. Phillips has some pasta, sauce, meatballs and garlic bread. Some kids are talking about some night skiing, but right now they are looking forward to dinner and watching a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

2010 Ski Trip - Day 1 report

10pm and the last of the scouts has just arrived.  Everyone has found a bunk and the kitchen is busy pumping out chicken sandwiches for all those that are still hungry.  Mr. Phillips has prepared a huge pot of minestrone soup - all are enjoying that too.

Current temp - 23 degrees.  Forecast for tomorrow - a high of 23 and clear.  Those that did some night skiing report that the conditions were a little icy but still very good.
