Troop2 Welch/Dickey Hike

Event:  Welch/Dickey Hike
When:  Leave Heights Club on Saturday 5/22/10 7:30am - Sunday 5/23/10
Where:  White Mountain National Forest's Welch/Dickey loop trail
Who:  All Scouts
Bring:  Clothing: 
  • Hiking boots or work boots
  • Jacket
  • Long sleeved shirt 
  • Pants
  • Sweater or sweatshirt
  • Extra socks (not cotton)
  • T shirt and underwear
  • Rain poncho or coat
  • Camp shoes (other than hiking shoes)
  • Hat and gloves
Essential Gear for any hike:
  1. Internal or External frame back pack to hold the following
  2. Map and compass (we will provide the map this time)
  3. Water - bring canteen or water bottles (2 quarts minimum)
  4. Flashlight or headlamp
  5. Food - trail snacks
  6. Raingear and clothes -  poncho/rain coat, warm top, extra socks
  7. Firestarter - water proof matches or lighter
  8. First aid kit including moleskin
  9. Sunscreen - hat, sunglasses and SPF
  10. Bug repellent with DEET if possible
  11. Whistle for emergency signaling
Gear for camping:
  • sleeping bag and ground pad (no cots)
  • cooking pots and pans
  • sponge to clean pots
  • cup and plate
  • knife, fork and spoon
  • resealable plastic bags
  • biodegradable camp soap
  • personal grooming kit including toothpaste, toothbrush and wash cloth

Food:
  • Lunch - Something that can be eaten on the trail (no cooking)
  • Dinner - A one-pot meal is recommended. High carb is good. Remember to bring pots for cooking.
  • Breakfast - A quick breakfast. Cereal, fruit, beverage.
