Troop 2 is fortunate to have two members of our group that have been participating for over 60 years.
John MacLeish and John Lonergan are seen in this photo from late 1940, along with the following partial list of scouts (based on the tags on the reverse side)
Front Row - Lonergan, Herald, Antonalli, Gillespie, MacLeish; 2nd Row - Rafferty, Chalmers, Lynch; 3rd - Latham.
Both of these men have been a constant presence in the troop. I remember them personally from my time as a scout in the late 70's and early 1980's, helping with camp, scout meetings, and advancement. JL taught our aquatics program at summer camp for many years, and Jack assured we had food for the week. Later, in the 1990's and 2000's JL accompanied Ron and others on most of the cross country and Canada trips, and Jack continued to attend summer camp working with the kitchen staff and productement, right up until recently.
JL and Jack still come to meetings regularly, and their continual service to the Troop and scouts is an inspiration.
Troop 2 is celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2011. We will have a number of recognition events through the year, with our Alumni event scheduled for the weekend of September 10-11 at Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Please keep an eye on our website and this blog for further details.
