Valley Pines Recap

A beautiful day in the woods today at Valley Pines. Cool weather greeted our scouts upon arrival. The camp was set up quickly, and scouts worked on several advancement skills. After lunch we worked on the Paul Bunyan Woodsman patch, and removed loads of small scrub trees (beech, sassafrass, etc) from the area around the campfire circle. Many of these trees are perfectly straight and over 10 feet tall, and will be saved for use in the spring for lashing projects.

The day rounded out with dinner - scouts cooked on the open fire and on the burners, with such fare as hamburgers, kielbasa, and hotdogs, as well as a home made corn chowder that Tim M whipped up, and lemon pepper chicken from Nick. We also used several dutch ovens to cook triple berry muffins, biscuits, and other delicious treats.

Scouts are turning in for the night soon, and preparing to sleep around the fire and in the cabin.

Here are some photos of the day
