We recommend a plastic, waterproof footlocker
We recommend placing clothing in large resealable bags if possible, and sending trashbags for dirty clothes. Be sure to remind your son to dry his clothes before he packs them in his footlocker.
He'll also a require a cot - this type works well
And a sleeping bag - we recommend a summer weight bag, or a blanket (so he can use the sleeping bag to lay on instead of in) - we also recommend a bedsheet for comfort, and a pillow.
He should wear BOOTS, and bring watershoes - the island is covered in rocks and roots and can be slippery - boots work better than sneakers, and watershoes or crocs will dry faster than most sneakers. If he brings sneakers, canvas or lightweight materials work well, and the cheaper and more disposable the better. You'll also likely want to send him with "old" clothes - he'll get dirty, socks in particular, and his clothes may come home less than immaculate.
For transport we recommend a large bag with his bedding/sleeping bag, and the footlocker, and the cot, all clearly labelled. The more stuff brought the more stuff lost and misplaced - putting the items into packages makes it easier for us to get it from the mainland beach over to the island and to your son.
Be sure NOT to pack his lifejacket, he needs it to ride over to the island.
