Veterans Day 2018 Observances
Reminder –
Our two town parades (Nov and May), cemetery flag placement, and flag
retirement, are mandatory events for all Troop 2 scouts.
For all
events below scouts must attend in full uniform.
1.
Monday Nov 5
- Weekly Meeting - we will be preparing for the parade.
a.
Drum Corps
practice at 7:00 PM
b.
Meeting at
7:30 – Uniform review and inspection
c. Note - FIRST AID CLASS will be held
at St Alberts Church at 7:30 PM – scouts
in this class should report there, not to the clubhouse.
2.
Saturday Nov 10 – Getting Drum Trailer and
equipment ready for event.
3.
Sunday Nov
11 – Morning - Veterans Day Parade
a.
Meet at the
East Weymouth Congregational Church by 9:30 AM
b.
A scout will
be reading a poem at the Korean War Memorial,
c.
Set up for
parade (flags, banners, drums) at 10:00
d.
Parade
begins at 10:15 AM, ends at Town Hall at 11:00.
Note: Scouts
should plan to stay for observances at the amphitheater. We will be regrouping
after the parade to walk back to the clubhouse for the afternoon activities,
where we will have lunch and finalize plans for the flag retirement event.
4.
Sunday Nov
11 - Afternoon – Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Emery Estate
a.
Scouts
gather at the clubhouse for pizza lunch at noon
b.
Retirement
ceremony begins at 2:00 PM, expected to complete at 3:30 PM
c.
Parking on
site (entry through Emery Lane off Commercial, opposite Legion Field) or park
at Legion Field, Town Hall, or the WHC and walk up to the site.
The flag
retirement event is town wide, and we will be joined by other Weymouth scouting
troops and veterans organizations.
