Troop 2 Winter Camping Plans - Camp Nihan

Our next scheduled camping trip is Saturday 11/17 – 11/18 at Valley Pines. We will schedule a December campout at Valley Pines as well, depending on the weather.

In addition to these Valley Pines trips, which are expected to continue through the winter if we have appropriate conditions, Troop 2 is also planning an overnight winter camping trip to Camp Nihan and the Breakheart Reservation in Feb 2019, with a day hike and possible educational trip to the Saugus Iron Works National Landmark in conjunction with associated metal working merit badges offered in Dec/January.

Information about Camp Nihan is below

Geography:
The facility encompasses sixty five acres of woodland forest, marsh, and a spring fed pond. The Saugus River flows through the camp property providing ideal habitats for animals such as heron and mallards. A variety of mammals reside in and around the area, including fox, deer and river otter.
Recreation:
Campers can hike to nearby Breakheart Reservation for swimming, hiking, and Visitor Center services. Some other recreation opportunities include horseshoes, basketball (half-court), board games and books, available in the cabins.

Facilities:
The cabins have bunk beds and tables with benches and accommodate 10-12 campers. Linens and eating utensils are not provided. Cabins have a refrigerator and are heated by pellet stove. No additional tents are permitted on cabin sites. Flush toilets and showers are available.

Nearby Attractions:
While in the area, be sure to visit other state parks: Breakheart State Reservation, Rumney Marsh Reservation, Middlesex Fells Reservation, Harold Parker State Forest, Boxford State Forest and Saugus Iron Works National Landmark.
