Our next scheduled camping trip
is Saturday 11/17 – 11/18 at
Valley Pines. We will schedule a December campout at Valley Pines as well,
depending on the weather.
In
addition to these Valley Pines trips, which are expected to continue through
the winter if we have appropriate conditions, Troop 2 is also planning an overnight winter camping trip to
Camp Nihan and the Breakheart Reservation in Feb 2019, with a day hike and
possible educational trip to the Saugus Iron Works National Landmark in
conjunction with associated metal working merit badges offered in Dec/January.

Geography:
The facility encompasses
sixty five acres of woodland forest, marsh, and a spring fed pond. The Saugus
River flows through the camp property providing ideal habitats for animals such
as heron and mallards. A variety of mammals reside in and around the area,
including fox, deer and river otter.
Recreation:
Campers can hike to
nearby Breakheart Reservation for swimming, hiking, and Visitor Center
services. Some other recreation opportunities include horseshoes, basketball
(half-court), board games and books, available in the cabins.
Facilities:
The cabins have bunk
beds and tables with benches and accommodate 10-12 campers. Linens and eating
utensils are not provided. Cabins have a refrigerator and are
heated by pellet stove. No additional tents are permitted on cabin sites. Flush
toilets and showers are available.

While in the area, be
sure to visit other state parks: Breakheart State Reservation, Rumney Marsh
Reservation, Middlesex Fells Reservation, Harold Parker State Forest, Boxford
State Forest and Saugus Iron Works National Landmark.
