Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge recap and homework

Scouts working on the Citizenship in the Nation merit badge  began last night with discussion of what it means to be a citizen in a nation, what makes a good citizen, and what the rights, duties, and obligations of a responsible and active American citizen are.

As a follow up to class we have two homework assignments

Homework 1  - Due Dec 10th

Scouts should watch the national evening news or read the front section of a major daily newspaper for the week, and will choose one national issues. They will need to explain how it affects them and their family in a short paragraph, which will be discussed in our class meeting.

Homework 2 - Due Dec 17th

Write a letter about a national issue (can be the issue used for Homework 1) directed to one of our elected officials in Congress (Senator Scott P. Brown; Senator John F. Kerry; Representative Stephen Lynch or Representative Bill Keating) sharing your view.  This letter must be shown to your counselor at the class meeting.
