Troop 2 is proud to announce
that Scoutmaster David Chase has been selected as the 2013 Boy Scout Leader of the Year
for the Great Ponds District of Old Colony Council. This district covers the
towns of Braintree, Canton,
Hingham, Hull, Randolph, Sharon, and Weymouth.This award was given at the monthly district roundtable on Tuesday, April 2, and will be presented on Friday, May 3rd.
David has been Scoutmaster of
Troop 2 since October, 2011, and has served as an adult leader in Troop 2 and
Pack 2 since 2007.
He is a Troop 2 Eagle Scout, receiving this rank in 1987 and
is a founding member of Pack 2 at the Weymouth Heights Club. He has been a registered member of Troop 2 and the Boy Scouts
of America for over 30 years.
In 2012 David completed all Scoutmaster position
specific training and all optional training, and received the Scoutmaster
Trained ribbon for this achievement. He is eligible for the Scoutmaster Key
award ribbon in May 2013.
Under David’s leadership our
Troop has advanced 10 scouts to the rank of Eagle, maintained an active roster
of over 50 scouts, and has led our troop on several events, including the
opening ceremonies for the Relay for Life, SOAR2012, and hikes along the
Bedford Trail and Issac Davis Trails.
In 2013 our unit earned the
Scouting’s Journey to Excellence GOLD recognition, the highest possible ranking
for this program. Scouting’s Journey to Excellence is the BSA's council
performance recognition program designed to measure the performance and success
of scouting units. Area’s our troop scored particularly highly on relate to
retention, achievement, participation, budget management, and outdoor
activities.
