2014 Troop 2 Annual Re-chartering

The Boy Scouts of America is an educational resource program, chartering community or religious organizations or groups to use Scouting as part of their service to their own members, as well as the community at large.

Our Troop is sponsored by the Weymouth Heights Club, via an annual charter, and for over 100 years our program has been registered with the Boy Scouts of America. Our new annual charter will be issued at the end of this year, and as we prepare for this we first organize our scouts and adults, collect dues, and update records.

  • Scout membership dues for Troop 2 are $100.00, which covers all registration fees.

  • Adult membership in Troop 2 requires completion of Youth Protection training every two years. Dues for adult registration are $50.00.
Registration includes subscription to the monthly Scouting magazine, and all scout families receive Boy’s Life magazine as part of their renewal. We firmly believe that no scout should be unable to participate based on hardship, and financial assistance is available for any scout with demonstrated need. Flexible payment plans are also an option for the high cost events such as summer camp and the ski trip. Please see Mr. Chase to discuss.

Please confirm your plans for registration with Troop 2 by returning the form below to Mr. Chase at our Gym Night on November 4th. All forms must be returned, and dues paid by Monday, November 25th.

Plan your Scouting costs for the year using these estimates

-    November - Annual Registration $100.00
-    December – Shawnee Peak Ski Trip – $150.00
-    July/August - Summer Camp - $220.00
-    Monthly - Overnight Campouts at Valley Pines – Free
-    Other events (bike trips, overnight hikes, council events, boating trips) typically are costed at $25.00 per day to cover food and rentals
-    Uniforming – shirts/pants estimate $40 each, scout belt $15, neckerchief and slide provided by Troop

Notes:

1. Scout uniform components – All scouts are expected to wear a full uniform at meetings, consisting of a Scout Shirt, Green pants, a Scout belt, Neckerchief, and Neckerchief slide.  Scouts are welcome to change into their uniforms if they arrive late due to a previous engagement. If your son does not have all components of his uniform, please see the Scoutmaster, Mr. David Chase

2. Meetings –  Our weekly meetings are held at the Weymouth Heights Club, and our Gym Nights are held at the First Church.

  • Scouts should bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and their scout handbook to every meeting. We suggest a string bag or binder to keep materials together.

  • Scouts should not bring electronics, such as cellphones to events including scout meetings. Scouts will be asked to place electronics in a box for the duration of the event. Troop 2 and the WHC are not responsible for these items.

  • For their safety, scouts should not be crossing North Street to visit 7-11 before and after meetings. Snacks, soda, and food should not be brought to meetings.  Please drop off and pick up on the clubhouse side of the street.

We maintain the following internet resources for communication

Weymouth Heights Club

We invite all parents to become involved in our program and our sponsoring organization, the Weymouth Heights Club – your son’s success as a scout depends on your support.

Who is the Weymouth Heights Club?

The Weymouth Heights Club is a nonprofit, volunteer organization. The goal of the organization is to improve and enrich the lives of the youth of Weymouth by sponsoring and organizing youth and community groups.

The Weymouth Heights Club proudly sponsors Troop 2 of Weymouth, the oldest Boy Scout troop in the Old Colony Council, and one of the oldest in the United States, Cub Scout Pack 2 and several Girl Scout troops

Several clubs and groups use the hall for frequent meetings, and there is an active, growing membership in this organization that meets regularly at the clubhouse.

How can we help support the Weymouth Heights Club and the scouting programs?

Our Troop has been proudly sponsored by the Weymouth Heights Club for over 80 years. We encourage you to join the club to support their community service activities and to support our Scouting programs, by dropping off bottles and cans or participating in the clubs fundraising activities.

If you’d like to register as a member of the WHC, dues are $10.00 per year and can be included in a separate check with your annual dues for Troop 2. Please add a note to the check indicating your enrollment.

There are several ways to support us. Membership is encouraged, and shows your scout that you are engaged and supporting the programs of the organization.

We also collect returnable bottles and cans, which can be deposited in the drop boxes at the clubhouse, as well as the one in front of the North Weymouth Fire Station on North Street or the collection boxes at Immaculate Conception Church in East Weymouth.  Empty beer case boxes and large clear contractor bags are also a need, and we gratefully accept donations. We sort the materials on Thursday evenings at 7 PM.

All proceeds from the bottle and can program directly benefit the programs the club supports.

Matching gifts or corporate donations are also a fantastic way to support any organization. The WHC is a nonprofit organization, and direct donations may be tax deductible.
