If you're in Weymouth, and looking for an awesome sight, take a spin to Lower Jackson Square and check out the annual herring run. The water is teeming with herring as they make their way from the ocean via the Back River, through the fish gates and ladders up to Whitmans Pond, and then up the Mill River and Swamp River to Great Pond where they spawn. It's an awesome sight to behold, and has been a part of our local history since the first Native Americans settled here. It's recognized as early as the 1640's as a food source in the area.
