Citizenship in the Nation - Update and Homework

A large group of our Scouts are working on Citizenship in the Nation

We began on 3/16  with discussion of what it means to be a citizen in a nation, what makes a good citizen, and what the rights, duties, and obligations of a responsible and active American citizen are.

This week we discussed the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and Bill of Rights, and the Amendments to the Constitution.

As a follow up to class we have two homework assignments

Homework 1  - Due 3/23 or 3/30
Scouts should watch the national evening news or read the front section of a major daily newspaper for the week, and will choose one national issues. They will need to explain how it affects them and their family in a short paragraph, which will be discussed in our class meeting.

Homework 2 - Due 4/6/15
Write a letter about a national issue (can be the issue used for Homework 1) directed to one of our elected officials in Congress (Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Ed Markey,  Representative Stephen Lynch) sharing your view.  This letter must be shown to your counselor at the class meeting.

This class will also include a visit to the Post Office in Weymouth Landing, date to be determined.
