Summer Camp 2016 will be held at Cliff Island, Newfound Lake, NH from July 23 - 31
All scouts are encouraged to attend.
As we know, Troop 2 is fortunate to have enough adult coverage for most of our events, however we periodically may need additional adults to drive or attend part of an event to support activities. With many activities the number of adult members required to participate may be limited, or may exceed the number who have expressed interest, and while all registered adults are invited to sign up for an event, we may restrict the number of attendees to those needed to ensure the event is successful, and encourage others to sign up as a reserve, or suggest participation in part rather than all of an event.
For Summer Camp 2016 we expect to modify our staffing to focus our additional staff on weekends to assist with camp setup and breakdown. Limited staff is required during the week, and volunteers may be directed to attend part of the week rather than the entire duration. We ask that all adults interested in attending camp to assist with the programs are flexible in their planning to accommodate our needs, which we expect to work out as the planning begins in March.
As a reminder, our two most popular events are the ski trip and summer camp. These events require greater adult participation, and are open first to active members and parents, followed by inactive members drawn from a reserve list.
Eligibility as an “active” member is determined at two six month intervals – January to June, and August to December – based on attendance, participation, and the criteria established below.
To be considered an active adult member you must be registered at the annual re-charter (membership applications will only be available for processing for new parents of scouts joining our troop in April) and must be a regular participant in the following events in the 6 months preceding our two events
-
To be eligible to
attend summer camp you must attend and participate in the Awards Banquet and the Memorial Day
activities (flagging and parade)
-
To be eligible to
attend the ski trip you must attend and participate in the Flag Retirement and Veterans Day Parade
In addition, to be considered active, you must periodically check in via Troop Committee Meetings and weekly scout meetings. We understand that adult members may be unable to attend these weekly events in person due to geographic factors, college, and other considerations, however our expectation is a level of engagement via email.
Inactive adults, and infrequent participants will be listed in reserve for events, and may be able to participate partially in an event – for example, weekends only at summer camp – or in a specific role – transportation, fund raising, etc. To improve your chances of being part of the core participation group, it is recommended that you are active and attend meetings, events, and committee meetings.
Active adults are also encouraged to participate
frequently in our fund raising activities, including the bottle and can
redemption program, and are invited to get involved in the scouting process by
serving as merit badge instructors and assisting the scoutmaster with events
and activities. We meet every Monday, we sort returnables on Thursday, and have
an event or activity every month. Our expectation is to see familiar faces from
our registered adult population at these events, rather than only at the most
popular events.
