Eagle candidates - Reminder regarding APPROVAL

As a reminder - the Eagle scout application and approval process has significantly changed in 2012.

Once a candidate has an idea, the next step, approval from council, must occur before any fund raising, receipt of donations, or physical work can begin.

To be clear - this means you cannot begin accepting donations of materials, funds, or begin site work for your prospective project,

This is a MANDATORY requirement. If you are already in progress and your project is not formally approved you are not following the process correctly.

There are three components needed from the candidate in order to obtain approval from Old Colony Council for the proposed project

1. A project proposal - several paragraphs outlining the project, who benefits, what those benefits are, and the source of materials/funding. (Note, if the scout is planning fund raising, a special form and approval is now required) - please see pages 7 through 10 of the Eagle workbook (http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-927_fillable.pdf) for details.

2. Before photos - please present 4-6 photos of the area where the work is taking place - these should show the current state of the site. These should be hard copy (not on a phone or electronic) and should be retained for the final report.

3. The coversheet, prepared by our Eagle coordinator, with contact details fort he candidate and our leadership team, sponsor, etc (found on page 6 of the workbook)

In the workbook, pages 7 through 10 are a great guide for determining what is required to complete an Eagle project successfully, and serve as a great basis for the Eagle service project report down the road.

Also - for the proposal, you do not need to complete this document (http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-728_web.pdf) - we fill that out from Troopmaster, which is the electronic record keeping system used by Troop 2 when you complete all required badges and your service project report is ready for the Board of Review.

Keep in mind - the process has changed both at council and nationally. In our troop we've adopted a new model to improve the flow of the Eagle scout process and to assure the candidates are continuously informed of the necessary steps.

If you  have any questions or concerns as you navigate the process, please contact Mr. Chase.
