Ski Trip Day 2
Breakfast today was pancakes and bacon.
A soon as breakfast was over the boys headed to the mountain to beat the crowds. Mr Kelley started his lessons for the beginners and some of the boys really took to it well.
Derek headed to Portland , with his dad and Doug, for his 10:30 appointment with the bone doctors.
The day was very nice, for weather; much warmer than last year.
Lunch was chicken sandwiches. After lunch Mr Kelley ran his Snow Sports class.
Dinner was pasta with meatballs, chicken parm and homemade minestrone soup.
Most of the boys headed back out for some night skiing.
Derek arrived back at the lodge at 7:30, in his new sling. He seems to be doing well, but no more snowboarding for a while.
The football game is currently on the TV, but the real competition is on the foosball table. Mr Wallace and James Annis are currently dominating the competition.
No other major injuries today; JB did cut his finger pretty good on his boot buckles and we had some pretty good falls.

Ski Trip Day1
People arrived at the lodge in waves, depending on school and work schedules. Some arrived early enough that they managed to work in some daytime skiing.
The menu for tonight included minestrone soup and meatball subs - in case people didn't eat on the ride up.
After 6pm most of the group was here and they headed up to the mountain for some night skiing.
Derek and his friends where on one of their first night time runs when he fell - hard. With some assistance he was brought down the mountain and then off to the local hospital. The doctors there were able to confirm that he had broken his wrist, but were unable to set the bone.
The hospital in Portland (about an hour away) was the closest place - so they would need to head there on Saturday. Derek made it back to the lodge about 11:30pm, with his wrist wrapped up and some pain medication. Fortunately Derek's dad was here and was able to go with Derek to the hospital.

Troop 2 35th Anniversary Photo

This historic photo is from the 35th Anniversary celebration for Troop 2 in 1946.
On the left is Ernest A. Smith, the first scoutmaster of Troop 2.
On his right is George Chalmers, who at that time was the only scout in the Troop whose father was also a scout in Troop 2.
Troop 2 Weymouth was organized by Mr. Smith at the East Weymouth Congregational Church in 1911. Sunday April 16, maybe called the date of organization for Troop 2 Weymouth.
We are the oldest continuously chartered and active troop in Weymouth. The reason we are not "Troop 1" is very interesting, as related below:
At the same time that Mr.Smith applied for commission as Scoutmaster, the minister of the Baptist Church at Weymouth Landing also applied for commission as Scoutmaster.
In the confusion at National Headquarters the numeral "1" was assigned to that organization, and Mr. Smith received the numeral "2".
Troop 1 however, was not organized for scout work until Troop 2 Weymouth had been in existence more than a year.
The first regular Troop 2 Weymouth Boy Scout meeting was held in the East Weymouth Congregational Church on Saturday, April 22, 1911.
Troop 2 is celebrating our 100th anniversary this year. Keep an eye on on our BLOG and webpage for further information.

100th Anniversary Unit Patch
.jpg)
This patch, created in recognition of the kickoff of our 100th anniversary celebration incorporates elements of historic patches, both in it's size which is similar to the ones used in the 1940's - 1960's as seen in photos of Ron Parry and various photos of the Troop in action, and in the numeral itself, which is an older style 2 in a metallic bronze color, similar to numerals from the earlier scouting periods.
The patch background is an antiqued red color, which captures the historic brick red color of patches from the 1970's - 1990's.
The 100th bar is incorporated directly into the patch and replaces the seperate bar device that would be mounted between the Council Shoulder Patch and the Unit Numeral.
Scouts should place this on their uniform in place of their unit numeral as soon as possible, and should remove their current 2, as well as any bar devices (latest may be a 95 on the uniform).
If you are interested in purchasing these commemorative patches as a keepsake or gift, a limited quantity are available for a $10.00 donation.
Stay tuned to the blog and website for more details on our observations of the 100th anniversary of Troop 2.
